Closing the Loop: Food Waste Prevention Pathways for Chicago


In the spring of 2023, RECIPES researchers Weslynne Ashton, Maura Shea, and Azra Sungu ran a workshop at Illinois Tech with stakeholders in food waste prevention in Chicago to rethink how the city addresses food waste. The collaborative workshop – “Closing the Loop: Food waste prevention pathways for Chicago” – engaged stakeholders in a series of activities to envision equitable and sustainable pathways to prevent food waste. Activities included mapping food flows, identifying barriers and priorities for city-wide food waste reduction efforts, and highlighting opportunities to support inclusive ways of addressing food waste in Chicago.
